A Letter to Prospective Job Fair Attendees

Dear Prospective Job Fair Attendee:
          Welcome!
The Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair will be held on October 16-18, 2009 in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC.  However, unlike past China Career Fairs, this year’s Fair is opening under some special historical circumstances.
The current global financial crisis has wrought much destruction on the US economy, resulting in massive layoffs of corporate personnel.  Many Americans now stand at a crossroad in their lives, a crossroad that may determine the future wellbeing of not only themselves, but also that of their loved ones.  However, as the old American saying goes, the Chinese character for crisis(机)is also the character for opportunity.  Nevertheless, the decision is a difficult one.  Should we continue to stay in our beloved American homeland, or should we be more like our heroic forefathers and look for opportunities far from home?  In the words of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet: “To be or not to be, that is the question.”
In order to provide greater career opportunities for American professionals, the North America Chinese Scholars International Exchange Center decided to host its Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair.  The objectives of the China Career Fair are two-fold: 1) assist American professionals looking to work in China and 2) aid American entrepreneurs looking to open business ventures in China.  Chinese employers are also extremely keen on recruiting outstanding American professionals.  As of now, employers from the provinces of Fujian, Jilin, Jiangxi, as well as from the municipalities of Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Kunming, Nanchang, Xinyu, among others, are all scheduled to attend this year’s China Career Fair.  Collectively, they bring with them thousands of job openings in the areas such as civil service, banking, insurance, asset management, industrial management, education, R&D, etc.  In addition, delegations from each province and municipality will provide detailed reports on their locality’s investment climate, including information on tax incentives and investment subsidies.
In order to more effectively assist your goal of finding a job or investing in China, the NAEC Organizing Committee has implemented several new changes regarding the format of this year’s China Career Fair:
1. Please send us via email your resume or business proposal as soon as possible.  Our email address is nacenter2009@gmail.com.
2. Upon receipt of your resume or business proposal, the Organizing Committee will immediately forward the resume or business proposal to all Chinese employers attending the Career Fair.  Employers may contact you directly via telephone or email prior to the Career Fair in order to get to know you better.
3. After the employers contact you via telephone or email, they will pre-select a list of prospective job candidates or business partners whom they wish to interview during the Career Fair.  You will be notified by the Organizing Committee if you have been pre-selected.  Please be prepared to be interviewed during the Career Fair if you have been pre-selected.
4. If you wish to attend the Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair, you must first register by sending us an Email as well as your resume. Because the format of this year’s Career Fair has been changed from information-gathering to job interviewing, we will no longer be accepting registration packages once the Career Fair has begun (Oct. 16).
5. Registration fees for the Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair are as follows:
      1) $10/person if you wish to attend the Career Fair
      2) $30/person if you wish to give a presentation during the Hi-Tech Program Exchange session (15 minutes/person)
      3) $55/person if you wish to attend the Opening Ceremony and Banquet (registration deadline is Oct. 13).
6. The Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair will be exclusively held in Washington, DC.  The Career Fair will not be held in any other cities this year.

Organizing Committee, The Eighth Annual NAEC China Career Fair
      September 10, 2009
